Biography

Lance’s journey towards a different way of farming began in 2008, when he attended a biological farming workshop that opened his eyes to a whole new world of farming practices.  By looking after the health of his farm’s soil, he learnt that he could build an ecosystem that produces nutrient dense food, which in turn results in improved human health.  Soil management practices can build land that is more resilient and this improves the environment that we live in.

From his experience on the land and seeing the difference it made to his farm, Lance is now keen to help others make the transition from high input, high stress production systems to more holistic farming practices that benefit the soil, animals and humans.

He sees himself as a caretaker of the land he works, producing food for the world’s growing population.  Lance has a passion for soil and the life within it, and he places the utmost value on his health.  He is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to make farming work and has been farming biologically for a number of years using climate-smart land management practices.

In 2021, Lance and his family moved from their dairy farm in the Apiti region, north of Feilding to a beef property in Fielding.  The enterprises on the property include beef and pasture-raised chickens.  He also has a business partner who he works with to supply and install pasture-raised poultry equipment and diverse seed mixes.

When he’s not farming, you can find him supporting his wife, Katherine and their three children, out cycling, or officiating at Triathlon New Zealand events.
